According to Breez, a prominent Bitcoin software company, there has been a significant increase in demand for its developer tools following the mainstream adoption of AI coding agents. The company reported a roughly 14-fold rise in partnership inquiries, as both developers and the AI agents they deploy express interest in integrating Bitcoin payment functionalities into their applications.
In a recent company blog post, Breez directly attributed this surge in demand to the introduction of Anthropic’s Claude Code, which was initially launched as a research preview in February 2025 and became widely available by May of the same year.
Prior to 2025, Breez noted that potential partners typically fell into three categories: enthusiastic Bitcoin advocates, developers involved in cryptocurrency, and fintech firms that view Bitcoin primarily as an asset class.
Since the release of Claude Code, the company reported an influx of inquiries from developers with minimal or no prior experience with Bitcoin. These requests have originated from a wide array of applications, including fitness platforms, messaging services seeking to facilitate peer-to-peer transactions, travel-focused eSIM services, and even a team developing a mushroom identification application.
Breez indicated that many of these developers are selecting Bitcoin due to its operational speed. Traditional payment acceptance methods, which often require establishing a bank account and navigating complex cross-border transfers, can take weeks or even months to implement. In contrast, Breez asserts that its Software Development Kit (SDK) can be up and running within minutes.
Moreover, the company has observed a notable increase in inquiries originating from AI software agents rather than individual developers. This trend has led to a regular flow of requests from coding agents operating on behalf of the companies employing them.
Breez argues that coding agents prefer Bitcoin due to its permissionless nature. This feature allows agents to create applications and establish payment systems for users on a global scale, all without the necessity of opening a bank account or undergoing traditional onboarding processes involving extensive documentation.
“Bitcoin is agnostic regarding whether the code of its current owner and user comprises DNA base pairs or weights in a neural network,” asserted Breez.
However, this lack of regulatory oversight and gatekeeping has historically attracted scrutiny from financial authorities, who mandate that conventional payment providers verify their customers.
Breez further commented that its latest SDK implementation, which is based on the Bitcoin scaling protocol Spark, has seamlessly managed the increased volume of inquiries.
The company contextualized this shift within a broader narrative, referencing investor Marc Andreessen’s seminal 2011 essay, which posited that software is consuming the world. Breez suggested that AI is now ascending to the forefront of that evolution, positioning Bitcoin as a foundational infrastructure akin to electrical sockets and subsea cables.
