In light of the unfavorable outcomes associated with this summer’s Tornado Cash trial and the Samourai Wallet case, it has become increasingly critical to safeguard the rights related to peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions.

To address this issue, the Bitcoin Policy Institute has collaborated with Save Our Wallets, CoinCenter, the Bitcoin Design Foundation, and various regional Bitcoin hubs across the United States to initiate the “Satoshi Needs You!” campaign.

The primary objective of this initiative is to mobilize Bitcoin supporters nationwide to connect with their elected representatives, urging them to endorse the provisions from the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act (BRCA), as included in the latest Senate version of the CLARITY Act.

This draft legislation offers substantial protections for developers and providers of non-custodial crypto technologies, as well as assurances for everyday users who utilize these non-custodial Bitcoin and cryptocurrency tools.

In the absence of such protections, Bitcoin users may find their right to transact freely hindered, and the risk of developers facing legal proceedings for creating non-custodial crypto technology may increase.

Olney further emphasized, “We cannot take our fundamental rights to economic liberty in the digital space for granted until they have been formalized into law. It is imperative that every Bitcoin enthusiast actively participates, contacts their representatives in Washington, D.C., and influences this Congress to advance pro-Bitcoin legislation.”

“We have an obligation to advocate for our freedoms, including the right to transact, and to ensure these rights are preserved for future generations.”

Individuals are encouraged to act without delay by visiting SaveOurWallets.org to gain insights regarding the CLARITY Act and to access contact details for their Senators, allowing them to express support for the most recent Senate draft of the bill, particularly Section 109.

Through collective effort, it is possible to ensure that individuals retain the freedom to utilize Bitcoin in alignment with Satoshi’s original vision—acting as peer-to-peer electronic cash without the necessity for third-party intervention or personal identification.

The responsibility lies with each individual to preserve Bitcoin—a system deeply rooted in the American principles of economic freedom and financial liberty—to remain open and accessible to all.
