The cryptocurrency exchange, OKX, has successfully raised new funding, achieving a valuation of $25 billion. This announcement was made by the company on Tuesday, as it disclosed investments from prominent digital asset firms.

In its official statement, OKX indicated that the investment round included participation from stablecoin leader Circle, technology firm Ripple, and the investment division of British bank Standard Chartered, SC Ventures.

Earlier in the year, the Intercontinental Exchange made an investment in OKX, aimed at advancing the tokenization of assets. The two companies have collaborated on a venture, OKXICE, which has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to launch a platform dedicated to the tokenization of securities, enabling continuous trading of U.S. stocks.

In its statement, OKX asserted that “through strategic investment and partnership, the firm is aligning some of the most critical builders of financial infrastructure behind its vision for the next generation of onchain markets.”

Star Xu, CEO and founder of OKX, emphasized that the newly acquired capital would facilitate the tokenization of real-world assets. He further articulated that the exchange served as the initial platform, evolving into a more comprehensive global financial technology platform.

A growing number of influential firms on Wall Street are expressing interest in the underlying technology of Bitcoin. Traditional financial powerhouses, such as BlackRock and Franklin Templeton, have utilized blockchain technology for years to tokenize money market funds. The concept of tokenization has gained momentum on Wall Street, particularly since the election of a pro-crypto president, Donald Trump.

The administration has appointed regulators who adopt a more favorable approach to overseeing the cryptocurrency industry. Notably, the SEC approved tokenized stock trading in September.

Additional significant collaborations between traditional finance and the cryptocurrency sector include the S&P 500 granting approval in January for the crypto platform Trade[XYZ] to launch a new derivative contract on the decentralized exchange Hyperliquid, allowing for 24/7 trading of the stock index.
