Republican lawmakers continue to express frustration with Democrats regarding the delayed advancement of the much-anticipated Crypto Clarity Act.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Senator Bill Hagerty emphasized the importance of the U.S. not falling behind global standards in digital asset regulation.
With only two days remaining for a vote on the Clarity Act before the Senate recess, a bipartisan draft of the bill has been circulating. However, several Democrats have raised objections concerning the language used in the legislation, as noted by some Republican representatives.

Senator Hagerty expressed concern about whether bipartisan support can be achieved amidst midterm political dynamics, stating, “The question remains whether we can pass this with Democratic support, or if political considerations will impede progress.”
He further asserted, “As the world transitions to digital platforms, we made significant strides with the Genius Act to ensure the dominance of the digital dollar; however, we must complement it with comprehensive market regulations. Passing the Clarity Act is imperative.”
Despite a backlog of legislative priorities, Republican Majority Leader John Thune indicated that the bill is likely to receive an initial vote this week.
Several key financial institutions, lawmakers, and companies have endorsed the proposed legislation, which previously garnered substantial bipartisan support in the House of Representatives.
Nevertheless, some Democrats have articulated reservations regarding the bill’s language, contending that it requires further refinement.
Republicans have countered that this resistance reflects a politically motivated strategy by Democrats, asserting that the bill has undergone significant amendments already.
Pro-cryptocurrency Senator Cynthia Lummis specifically accused Democrats of purposefully delaying the legislation.
In a separate interview, former Republican Senator Pat Toomey underscored the urgency of passing the bill this week, stating, “It is essential for the Senate to enact this legislation promptly. Blockchain technology holds transformative potential for finance and broader economic sectors, yet legal clarity is paramount.”
The Clarity Act has experienced a stalemate throughout 2026, partly due to concerns raised by the banking lobby regarding stablecoin yield.
An updated version of the Clarity Act was introduced in July to address ethical concerns, including provisions that prohibit government officials and their families from promoting or issuing cryptocurrency.
If enacted, the Clarity Act would establish a regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency market.
