The landscape of Bitcoin mining has experienced a notable enhancement in terms of accessibility.
On Thursday, Sazmining announced its new initiative to sell Proto’s immersion hashboards directly to both individual and institutional buyers through its mining-as-a-service platform. Historically, this advanced hardware has predominantly been retained by large-scale operators.
Each hashboard is capable of delivering approximately 200 TH with an efficiency of around 15 J/TH. Buyers will retain full ownership of the hashboards, while Sazmining facilitates their deployment, monitoring, and maintenance at a U.S. facility. Furthermore, mining rewards are directly allocated to the owner’s wallet.
This strategic development follows a significant multi-megawatt supply agreement between Sazmining and Proto, the Bitcoin mining division of Jack Dorsey’s Block (NYSE: XYZ). Both entities anticipate expanding this collaboration as market demand continues to rise.
Kent Halliburton, CEO and co-founder of Sazmining, articulated the company’s aligned-incentive model, stating, “Sazmining only earns when we produce bitcoin for our clients.” This framework underscores the company’s commitment to client success.
In addition, Halliburton highlighted the value of mining as a means of diversifying bitcoin acquisition. He noted that, rather than paying the prevailing market price at the time of purchase, a miner’s expenses are amortized over the operational lifespan of the equipment.
Founded in 2018 and based in Wyoming, Sazmining operates renewable energy-powered facilities across the United States, Paraguay, and Norway. The company asserts that its operational fleet operates more than 20 percentage points ahead of the Bitcoin network’s carbon-free share.
Proto, as part of Jack Dorsey’s Block, represents the company’s venture into bitcoin mining. Dorsey has long advocated for bitcoin as a cornerstone of “a more open financial system,” providing funding for various initiatives, from Cash App’s buy-and-send mechanisms to the Bitkey self-custody wallet. In 2021, he articulated the notion that “Bitcoin mining should be as easy as plugging a rig into a power source,” acknowledging the need for straightforward access to this intricate process.
In January 2022, Block officially proclaimed its intent to develop an open bitcoin mining system, with the goal of enhancing the distribution and efficiency of mining operations.
