The burger restaurant franchise Steak ‘n Shake has announced that the acceptance of bitcoin payments has significantly contributed to the company’s growth.
In a statement shared on its X account, the Indianapolis, Indiana-based establishment noted that since integrating the leading cryptocurrency into their payment options, it has realized double-digit same-store sales growth.
The company further emphasized, “This quarter has been extraordinary, with franchise-partners same-store sales increasing by 19%.”
Ever since we started accepting Bitcoin in May 2025, we have achieved double-digit same-store sales growth!
And this quarter has been extraordinary, with franchise-partners same-store sales gaining 19%.
Come have a Bitcoin burger and Bitcoin shake to celebrate!
Thank…

The firm commenced accepting Bitcoin payments last year, utilizing the Lightning Network to facilitate transactions.
Furthermore, Steak ‘n Shake indicated its intention to include cryptocurrencies in its balance sheet, revealing in January that it had added $10 million in Bitcoin to its strategic reserve.
In an address at the Bitcoin 2026 Conference in April, Michael Boes, the Chief MAHA Officer of Steak ‘n Shake, remarked that Bitcoin has become a pivotal element driving the chain’s business performance.
The company reported a quarter-over-quarter increase in same-store sales of 11% in Q2 2025, which accelerated to 15% in Q3 2025, outperforming major competitors such as McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Domino’s.
Boes asserted that this remarkable growth represented the highest same-store sales increase in the restaurant industry, attributing it to the cost-effectiveness and speed of Bitcoin transactions on the Lightning Network compared to traditional electronic payment methods.
When customers opt to pay with bitcoin rather than credit cards, Steak ‘n Shake reportedly saves approximately 50% on processing fees, as conventional credit card processors charge merchants between 2.5% and 3.5% per transaction.
“Bitcoin is real money made with real energy,” Boes stated during his presentation.
Additionally, the company contemplated accepting other cryptocurrencies last year but ultimately abandoned the idea following a survey on X, which indicated that consumers believed bitcoin alone sufficed.
