The hardware wallet manufacturer, Trezor, has revealed that a data breach first disclosed last month is more extensive than originally reported.

On Friday, the company, located in Prague, Czech Republic, disclosed that an additional 67,000 U.S. customers had their names, email addresses, phone numbers, shipping addresses, and order numbers compromised. The exposed data pertains to orders placed between November 2019 and August 2021, according to Trezor.

Initially, Trezor announced in August that data from 11,742 customers from the U.S., U.K., Sweden, Colombia, Brazil, Italy, and Portugal had been compromised, revealing names, email addresses, phone numbers, and shipping addresses.

Additionally, 1,947 customers experienced the exposure of their names, cities, and email addresses as part of the breach.

In its announcement on Friday, Trezor expressed disappointment regarding the actions of its third-party fulfillment partner, ShipMonk, which had previously assured Trezor that customer data had been deleted.

Trezor stated, “Throughout our entire relationship with ShipMonk, we repeatedly requested and received written assurance confirming the deletion of the data, in line with our contract, data policy, and past communications.”

The company concluded, “We are very disappointed that, despite receiving this confirmation, the data was not deleted in their systems.”

As of now, neither Trezor nor ShipMonk has provided a response to inquiries from Bitcoin Magazine.

Trezor had previously indicated in August that the breach occurred due to “unauthorized access to their systems containing customer data” at ShipMonk. The company further noted that all customers impacted by the breach had been directly informed via email. Trezor’s parent company, SatoshiLabs, has indicated that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

As one of the most prominent Bitcoin hardware wallet solutions, Trezor also supports the storage of various other cryptocurrencies.

Past incidents highlight that Bitcoin users’ personal information has been frequently targeted by cybercriminals. For instance, in 2020, an unauthorized entity accessed the e-commerce and marketing database of prominent hardware manufacturer Ledger, leading to the leak of over one million email addresses and the personal contact information of nearly 10,000 customers.

Earlier this year, customers reported receiving communications from Global-e, Ledger’s payment partner, concerning a data breach in its cloud systems that exposed sensitive customer information.
